I found a great blog today for moms living in the Chicago area called Chicago Moms Blog. It is a collaborative group of moms writing about their lives in Chicago, Illinois. Although my vision is to help women around the world create a balance in their lives, I love the idea of communities of women supporting each other throughout motherhood. How would we survive as mothers without other moms, girlfriends and sisters around us?

The post on the Chicago Moms Blog today was about the need to decompress after a long tiring day. So I started thinking about how I decompress after spending the majority of the day on my computer and most of my evening playing, feeding, cleaning, teaching, listening, and laughing with my children.

I’d like to say I decompress through exercise, fruits and vegetables, and meditation. But the typical answer is usually by watching TiVo, eating dark chocolate, and working on my blog. The best thing I did when my second son was born was establish life balance priorities into my life. It changed my life. Once I incorporated my needs and passions into my weekly schedule, once I remembered that I have to put my well being first, the reality of meeting everyone else’s demands became a lot more manageable.

PUTTING MYSELF FIRST
Here are two of many things I started doing to put myself first.

  • SELF > I make sure I spend time each week working on my passion – which is my CreateaBalance.com adventure. If you are reading this and like my blog, please leave a comment and click on the links to my sponsors so I can continue to live my dream.
  • MONEY > I started saving in three buckets: my retirement fund, my vacation fund, and my Stacey-only fun fund. This year I’m using fun funds and going to a Yoga Center for a 3-day creative writing workshop.

What do you do that signifies that you put yourself first?
