I really need more hours in the day.  At least that’s what I tell myself at the end of the day when my unfinished To Do List gets tossed on the dining room table.  Try as I might, I simply cannot seem to get everything crossed off.  Are you the same way?

What would you say is one of the biggest reasons your To Do List goes unfinished?

Mine would be that I waste time.  Not because I’m aimless but because, like so many women, my To Do List is so long that sometimes it’s overwhelming.   So I end up putzing around on Facebook, sending out meaningless Tweets or noshing on unhealthy snacks…

Totally unproductive.

An unfinished To Do List can lead to feelings of anxiety and sadness which can manifest itself in unhealthy ways like weight gain, insomnia and all around snappishness.  Those things do not make for a happy mama!  So how do we combat procrastination?

How do we make our way through our To Do List and maintain our sanity?  It’s easy:

1.    Break your list up into manageable pieces
2.    Reward yourself after you finish a set number of tasks
3.    Balance boring or difficult tasks with fun or easy chores
4.    Remember it’s not Pass or Fail, if you don’t finish everything there’s always tomorrow

  • I use to hate moving tasks to the next day. I would get that ‘fail’ feeling when I’d have to do that. It took me a long time to convince myself that it’s ok to not get everything done right away. I hate to say it, but I think age helped. Priorities change as we get older.

  • Heather, I used to feel that way too but I had to accept that I really can’t do everything. And, like you said, that realization came with age. Shifting priorities also became important.
