In Danielle Smith‘s recent blog post, she asked moms how they wanted to be celebrated on Mother’s Day. She wanted to know if you’d prefer to celebrate being a mom by spending time with your children or by taking a few hours off and spending time away from family responsibilities for some rest and relaxation. Similar to Danielle, I fall somewhere in the middle.
So this year I had two Mother’s Day celebrations. One with my children and one that was only for moms.
I spent Mother’s Day morning with my children. I loved the hugs and the smiles, and the excitement in my children’s eyes when I opened their precious handmade gifts.
I loved hearing my boys tell me how much they love me and how absolutely beautiful they think I am. Spending Mother’s Day with my boys was positively magical.
My Mother’s Day festivities, however, really started 5 days earlier when I spent the afternoon at The Peninsula Chicago for afternoon tea with some of the fabulous bloggers of The Chicago Moms. We dined on maple glazed scones, winter mushroom and fontina quiche, and golden chocolate tarts while sipping tea and drinking champagne.
The food, the service, the atmosphere, and the company instantly placed me into a calming state of relaxation. It was very easy for me to fall in love with afternoon tea and all of the amenities The Peninsula Chicago has to offer both out of town and local families.
They have Peter Bear (the hotel’s mascot), Children’s Afternoon Tea, mini peanut-butter and jelly sandwiches, cheese sandwiches, Rice Krispie treats, mini brownies, hot chocolate, and the Chocolate at The Pen – a delectable display of endless chocolate desserts.
I am truly grateful that I was able to have this experience and that I am part of The Chicago Moms community. Thank you MJ, Vanessa, and Dwana for inviting me to this lovely afternoon and for all you do for our community.
